Title Year Rating Rank Review
Departed, The2006961
Gandhi1982952(full review) - A bit overly long, which made it a bit tough to watch, but excellently performed and very insightful. Should be required viewing.
Forrest Gump1994943
Gladiator2000934
Shakespeare in Love1998934
Birdman2014926 - As we walked towards the theater exit, an older woman told me, a stranger, that she hated the movie. I felt quite different about it than she did, but I can understand where she's coming from. It isn't for everyone, but it's a damn fine film from all aspects.

Unforgiven19928521
In the Heat of the Night19678432
Sting, The19738333 - Not enough time spent tying up loose ends and explaining how things fit together, but if you don't need FULL closure it is still a really clever movie.
The Best Years of Our Lives19468333
A Beautiful Mind20018235
All The King's Men19498235

How Green Was My Valley19417170
Mrs. Miniver19427071
English Patient, The19966972
Chariots of Fire19816773 - Decent story but the pacing was sluggish, ironic because the film was about Olympic runners. There really wasn't much in the way of tension or drama, and although they could have juxtaposed the main characters, they didn't make much of an attempt. I will be interested to watch the other films nominated that year to see how this could have won.
Going My Way19446773
Mutiny on the Bounty19356575
An American in Paris19516476 - There was some great dancing and the story was decent, but it was overly long and it didn't age well.
Tom Jones19636377
Midnight Cowboy19696278
A Man for All Seasons19666079
Out of Africa19856079(full review) - Great acting and good cinematography. Sluggish pacing. Awkward transitions. Mediocre dialogue.
Around the World in Eighty Days19565081
Crash20044482(full review) - Too contrived, and although the story is interestingly complex, the dialogue is sub-par and the characters are way too stereotypical. Huge disappointment.
